It was a bright morning today. The last of the blackberries were in the hedgerows and one particular line of brambles are sweeter than the rest. It is late in the year for them but the soils are obviously different on different sides along the fields I walk, the other blackberries are sour and even hard in the centre.
The sunlight in the morning shines off the water in the spiderwebs. Its a stunning sight to see so many web criss-crossing the grass and between the bars in the gates. It isn’t a day that makes one glad to be alive – one should always be that – nor glory in nature for her own sake. I have seen all this before and am spoiled. But it is a day to be satisfied that whatever else I did in the world, whatever decisions I took, I am satisfied to be here, now. To share the air with my thoughts and the thoughts of me in others.
